That's right you heard correctly. Pioneer DJ (Alpha Theta) who was previously owned by KKR has been sold to Noritsu Koki Co., Ltd., a photo processing machine manufacturer based in Tokyo, Japan. There has been speculation in the industry that Pioneer DJ was setting itself up to be sold & now we have the proof. The deal is set to be finalized in April of 2020. Here is a link to the press release: Pioneer DJ sold to Noritsu.
What's Next?
What does this mean for the Pioneer DJ brand & what can we expect? Only time will tell. According to the press release Pioneer DJ said their brands will not be affected by this sale, but I've heard this story before after a company has been sold. Hopefully the professional, reliable, & rugged industry standard equipment that Pioneer has become known for won't suffer. But if it does maybe it will be an opportunity for a company like Denon to move into the number one spot. This might be wishful thinking on my part but hopefully we'll see some price drops on the Pioneer DJ line after this sale. Might just push me over the edge to pick up some new toys.
Mac out.
